Serving three meals a day to nearly 1,000 hungry young athletes from around the world for a week is a challenge — but it’s one Metz Culinary Management will meet this coming week under sunny Florida skies.

World Rowing (FISA) , USRowing and Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates Inc. (SANCA) chose Metz Culinary Management to provide dining and catering services for the 850 athletes competing in the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July 21-28, 2019, in Sarasota, Fla. Metz will serve athletes from 53 countries during the eight-day long event at Nathan Benderson Park, a world class, multi-sport venue.

SANCA is the not-for-profit organization that operates Nathan Benderson Park on behalf of Sarasota County. The park was home to the 2017 World Rowing Championships as well as other national and international events in rowing, dragon boat, triathlon and other sports, as well as community events on and off the water.

“We are thrilled to be selected by FISA and SANCA as the official food service provider for the 2019 World Rowing Under 23 Championships,” said Jeff Metz, president & CEO of Metz Culinary Management. “Our regular offerings of healthy, fresh and locally-sourced food options will be tailored to address physical demands of hundreds of high-performing, world-class athletes.”

FISA and SANCA selected Metz Culinary Management as a partner for their reputation for excellence and their depth of experience as a food service provider for colleges and universities and their student athletes. Metz will be responsible for providing 15,000 meals over the course of eight days, in addition to serving lunch and dinner for teams that arrived early to the park, starting on July 15.

Metz Culinary Management’s menus for the event were developed to provide the opportunity for each individual athlete to satisfy their own personal nutritional needs with a mix of options that include lean proteins and complex carbs. Metz Executive Chef Nello Allegrucci worked closely with SANCA’s registered dietitian on each menu item and recipe to ensure that attending athletes have the necessary fuel for optimal performance.

“We’re proud to have the Metz team here for the Under 23s,” said Doug Jessmer, the communications manager for SANCA. “Serving nutritious meals to that many young athletes from around the world is a challenge we know Metz will meet.”

Metz will prepare all culinary fare in their state-of-the-art center in Sarasota, Fla., and draw upon the support of team members across the East Coast to ensure that all meals are prepared and served in a smooth and efficient manner.
