John Metz Jr. Joins His Father John C. Metz as an IFMA Silver Plate Award Recipient
DALLAS, Pa. (Thursday, April 18, 2013) – Wilkes-Barre native John Metz, Jr., CEO, Executive Chef and Co-Founder of Sterling Spoon Fresh Culinary Management, has been honored as a 2013 Silver Plate Award recipient by the International Facility Management Association (IFMA), which recognizes excellence in eight segments of foodservice operations.
Metz, Jr. is now the second member of his family to win an IFMA Silver Plate Award, widely recognized as the most coveted operator award in the foodservice industry. His father, Metz Culinary Management founder and Executive Chairman John C. Metz, was named an IFMA Silver Plate Award recipient in 1979.
“My father started our family legacy of dedicated service in the food industry and it’s overwhelming for me to share this award with him,” said John Metz, Jr.
As one of the eight Silver Plate winners, Metz, Jr. will be eligible for the 2013 IFMA Gold Plate Award, which will be announced at the 59th annual Gold & Silver Plate Awards Celebration on May 20 in Chicago. The celebration draws hundreds of leading foodservice executives from the supplier and operator communities.
IFMA Gold and Silver Plates have been awarded to such legendary operators as Dave Thomas of Wendy’s (’79), Ralph Brennan (’97), Steve Ells of Chipotle (’03) and most recently to Mary Molt of Kansas State University (’12).
A distinguished jury including national trade press editors, foodservice experts, past award winners and the chairperson of the International Gold & Silver Plate Society, weigh the merits of hundreds of candidates nominated by IFMA Members. From among the eight IFMA Silver Plate winners, one is chosen to receive the industry’s most coveted recognition, the IFMA Gold Plate. The jury’s secret ballot is kept confidential until the Gold & Silver Plate Celebration when the Gold Plate winner is announced for the first time.
